Oral history interview with Emil Niemeyer [sound recording] / interviewed by George Gilkey. 1966 Sept. 23.

Niemeyer describes his life in La Crosse, Wisconsin. He details his involvement with the La Crosse Country Club, where he began as a caddy during its founding in 1901 as the Schaghticoke Country Club and later secured membership. He discusses his work at National Gauge and Northern Engraving and his career as a singer at local theaters. He also discusses La Crosse breweries.

Dr. George Robert Gilkey was born January 4, 1919, in Waynetown, Indiana. Gilkey died February 9, 2010, in La Crosse, Wisconsin. In 1954, he began teaching at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse where he eventually became the chairman of the history department. Dr. Gilkey retired as emeritus professor of history in 1983.
